The Environmental Cost of a Capsule: A Visual Sustainability Breakdown of the Supplement Industry

The supplement industry markets itself as part of a healthy lifestyle — but what’s the real cost of that daily capsule? Each year, the supplement industry contributes to the death of 24 billion animals . Despite this, there are no labeling requirements that disclose whether a supplement contains animal-derived ingredients. Consumers often assume supplements are plant-based or neutral — when in fact, many contain ingredients like gelatin (from cows or pigs) or omega-3s from fish. Terraseed has joined forces with Animal Save Movement to launch the Transparent Label Campaign , which is petitioning the FDA to require supplement facts labels to disclose animal-derived ingredients. Our goal is to collect 25,000 signatures to bring transparency to supplement labeling and empower people to make informed choices. This project will help support that mission by creating compelling visual content and messaging that clearly illustrates the environmental and ethical impact of traditional supplements — and highlights how Terraseed offers a more sustainable alternative. Project goals: Quantify and visualize the hidden environmental cost of a traditional supplement capsule (vs. a Terraseed capsule). Drive awareness of the Transparent Label Campaign and encourage petition signatures. Create educational, shareable digital content that supports Terraseed’s sustainability mission.
